Head Start


GOCAA has provided the Head Start program to young children and families since 1965. GOCAA Head Start services 85 children in a two county area. We have one Head Start center in Gogebic County and one in Ontonagon County.

GOCAA Head Start believes in providing a developmentally appropriate curriculum for 3 and 4 year old children that includes:

  • Child-initiated activities enhanced through social-emotional development and the Second Step Curriculum

  • School-readiness based on active learning through the Creative Curriculum

  • Parent support to nurture and assist in their child’s development

  • Consistent and loving care in an exciting learning environment

Services that are provided are:

  • Parent involvement

  • Comprehensive developmental screenings

  • Transportation

  • Nutritionally balanced meals and snacks

  • Strengths-based parent and family support

  • Referral services

Enrollment in Head Start is done year-round, based on available openings. Eligibility for the program includes income level, homelessness, foster care and family needs. Please call 906-932-3080 ext 102 for more information.
